Colt M16
The Armalite AR-15 designated M16 by the US military is 5.56mm NATO semi-automatic rifle designed by Eugene Stoner in the 1960s. It was issued as a replacement to the obsolete M14 rifle during the Vietnam War. It was one of the advanced rifles in its day; made mostly out of plastics for stock and forestock. Apart from some early hiccups the M16 went on to be one of the best and most iconic rifles in history.

When the rifle was first issued during the Vietnam War the designers were so proud of it they claimed it did not need to be cleaned and did not issue cleaning kits. Without them the M16 constantly jammed and was unsuited to the harsh terrain. The M16 was deadly accurate with an effective range of 200-300 metres. but this advantge was turned into a diadvantge during Nam thanks to the thick forrest the enemy armed with AK-47 assaut rifles turned the Ak's recoil into an advantge.

However the M16 shone during other combat situations with its low recoil, light weight, fast firering rate and reasonable power making the M16 one of the best rifles in the world. During he 1990s a range of new "M4" carbine rifles began to emerge that covered the M16's weaknesses and outpeforming the M16 and rendering it obsolete. It continues to be manufactured and used by the US Military despite having been replaced by the M4 carbine its legacy remains.
